Calcium Alginate Dressing (Suprasorb A)

Lohmann & Rauscher Suprasorb A Calcium Alginate Dressing has a very high capacity for absorbing wound exudate, which helps promote faster wound healing. Absorption of wound exudate causes sodium ions to exchange with calcium ions, resulting in gel formation. This gel traps bacteria and cellular debris while creating a moist environment for the wound.
In addition to being very soft and comfortable for the patient after application, Suprasorb A Calcium Alginate can also help accelerate wound healing.

1- Clean the wound according to standard hygiene guidelines. Then gently pat the surrounding skin dry using a sterile pad.

2- Apply Suprasorb A Calcium Alginate Dressing loosely to the wound. For deep wounds or wound cavities, gently insert the Suprasorb A Calcium Alginate ribbon into the wound.

3- Depending on the amount of wound exudate, cover the applied dressing with an appropriate secondary dressing such as Suprasorb P or the superabsorbent Vliwasorb dressing.

Dressing change:

The dressing should be changed according to the physician’s instructions and depending on the condition of the wound, the level of exudate, and the secondary dressing used. However, the dressing should be changed after a maximum of 5 to 7 days.

Recommendation for infected wounds:

Use an occlusive secondary dressing only when recommended by the physician based on the patient’s overall condition.
