This type of catheter has no retention balloon and, compared with many other catheters, offers greater softness and flexibility. The Nelaton catheter is also not connected to a urine drainage bag and is generally used for temporary urinary drainage.
The Nelaton catheter is designed as a thin, hollow, flexible tube and is usually made from soft PVC or medical-grade silicone. Due to its simple balloon-free structure, this catheter is more suitable for short-term and outpatient use and can be easily removed from the body after use.
The main applications of the Nelaton catheter are urine sampling and temporary bladder drainage. In this procedure, the catheter is gently inserted through the urethra into the bladder, allowing urine to be collected. This procedure is generally performed for patients who temporarily have difficulty urinating or require diagnostic examinations.
